Madrigal was born as Alessandro Liborio "Al" Madrigal, on the 4th of July, 1971 in San Francisco, California, U.S.A. He was born to a middle class family, as the only child to a Mexican father and a Sicilian mother. Thus, despite of his American nationality, he has got a mixed ethnicity although he is a Christian by religion. Growing up in San Francisco’s Inner Sunset District, he made friends and neighbors with people like Meehan Brothers and Margaret Cho, who were later to become stand-up comedians as well. Al was an only child, who was raised with all the love and support from his parents and as a child, got educated at the St. Ignatius College Preparatory.

Notably sharp and talented in his studies, he graduated as a salutatorian in 1989, after which he got enrolled at the University of San Francisco Surprisingly, he left his studies and classes prior to his graduation and this came as a shock to his family, who immediately called him back home, He then, worked for 10 long years in his father’s company as a HR manager; specialized in firing people from their jobs.
